Full of Hope..........

Each day, there seems to be a new challenge that we face, yet I realize more and more - my challenges are so minimal compared to others.  The last few years - Rodney's photography has been laser sharp, focused on human beings, their struggles, their lives and each person's hope for a brighter future.  Today and each day, I try to appreciate the blessings in my life and to focus on being full of hope.  Positive.  Looking for solutions.

Grateful for my life and those that surround me, in work, in life.

Hope For Haiti: The Pink Door Photographs

EXHIBIT by Rodney Rascona
Location: Big Buoy  1-5 Poland Street, London  W1F 8PR
Opening:  July 27th, 7pm

As the work being displayed is from 2010, it's of great interest to have a voice to share the current condition within Haiti. It's important to Rodney that the photographs continue, since their creation in 2010, continue to educate, inspire and to keep challenges within Haiti - front of mind. This body of images have proven to have the power to be a catalyst for dialogue, to help give life to tired messages, especially as this collection has never been seen in London before.
So in this spirit, we wish to extend an invitation to you, to join us for a short while, to enjoy the collection and one image makers experience 6 weeks post earthquake in Jacmel.  We'd be willing to make the imagery potentially available for other shows, to help increase greater understanding within the international population in which we live in support of press, marketing and communications aspirations.

If you have the opportunity to be at the opening in person, please take the the chance, if not - these images are available online for your personal viewing.

Something new...........

Ah, putting together a new book.  It takes SO long and is very hard to do.  I'm sure many of you creatives know exactly what I am talking about when I say that.  Lots of long hours struggling to make choices and edits - yet when it is done and people get to look at it and you share your work, it is all worth it.

I was thrilled to meet with Joshua a few weeks ago when I was out in Los Angeles.  It was more of a culmination of many back and forth emails, skype visits and phone calls - resulting in a fantastic book and some pretty incredible imagery.  Some of it I was familiar with and some was entirely new and exciting work that sends a chill up your spine.

Can't wait to share and can not wait to meet many of you in person because BOY does it look good.  Congrats Joshua!

Want to see the work?  Give me a call.

Balance

Balance.
Each day, it's all about finding the right way to approach life.
Work, family, friends, fun.  Lots of pressures and many pleasures, but can you make the pressure more pleasurable?  Of course.

As I mentioned in a recent blog post, it is all about your choices and approach.  Finding your balance could be as simple as how you decide you want to approach your life.   Surround yourself with like-minded people.  Make a cognitive decision to work with people that hold the same morals and ethics.  Foster the right opportunities to put yourself in the right place so great things can happen.

Choose to find balance.

RASCONA........India Tsunami 10 year Anniversary

RASCONA
INDIA: 2004 Tsunami +2..."He sleeps with angels"...
IMAGE NOTES: Nagapattinam India

Two days after the tsunami hit Indonesia, I was sent to document the damage just dawning on India's shoreline. In the early morning hours, walking the beach already littered with absolutely complete destruction, crying women preparing ceremonial offerings for the dead, smoldering funeral pyres and people just staring out to sea. I had just walked past this man, pausing farther ahead to wait for my interpreter to catch up with me.

Abraham stopped, bending down to speak with him when I noticed he was glancing my way, signaling me to wait. Joining me quietly..“That man” he said, “he lost his wife, his house, his family…everything to the sea, but right now he tells me that "he sleeps on the beach with his son." It took me a minute to comprehend what Abraham was saying, that this humble man had just buried his boy in the sand and lay sprawled there, sleeping with him, not wanting to leave his side. We didn’t know what to do so we stood there as silent witnesses and quietly cried.

A Photographer's memory, my memories at times, are kept inside a little box under my bed with it's lid tightly roped shut for things you wished you'd not seen, wished you'd not heard..nor felt.

The 2004 Tsunami was just such a place...

Personality is packed within.........a little passion doesn't hurt either!

Since meeting and working with Joshua, I have come to realize how personal someone's bike really is. I mean, avid bike riders are on their bikes for hours a day and I really think they show a lot of personality about who the person is. Joshua rides a ton and has really found an incredible way to allow two passions to collide. Interestingly, many of my photographers have passions that they showcase through their photography. This month, I am going to focus on some of that "love" and "passion." Gotta love passion!

Quality Time............

As Joshua said, this shot is what it is all about. We need to find quality time in our lives to spend with those we love, doing what we love to do. Although we all have a lot of work to do and it matters, our health and happiness matter too, REALLY MATTER. Take a moment and think about that while you are in the thick of things. Make sure that you are focusing on the right things, taking a moment to reflect on what is of the utmost importance. Life and living it to its fullest and letting those around us know how much they mean to us. Embrace life!

Colombia boys and the bike..............

Most of the imagery that Susan captured while in Colombia, were all real life moments. Just like we experience and see every day. It reminds me of my trip to China - years ago - and how we really are so much a like. Take a moment for reflection and peek at some of the images from Colombia.................

Double Image Studio - pays it forward

DIS got a request to shoot for Ladies Home Journal.......Carole Muriello shared this wonderful story..........

A few months ago, my daughter, her husband and their 2.5 year old son went out for dinner. When they asked for the check, the waitress explained that a family across the room had already paid their whole bill, tip and all. They were totally surprised and delighted by the nice gesture, which really inspired me. The following week I had lunch by myself and decided to pay it forward. I sat behind an elderly couple who seemed sweet and were probably on a fixed income, so when I left - I asked the waiter if I could cover their bill.

Nice huh? Can you "Pay it Forward?"
